Reversed Subtitling and Foreign Language Learning: Investigating the Applications of Reversed Subtitling in Formal Language Learning Environments in Greece

In light of the current generation’s extensive familiarization with technology and exposure to a vast amount audiovisual materials daily, researchers have been investigating effects subtitled products in foreign language learning for years. It has generally found that polysemiotic nature content (Lertola 2019) enhances learning, as message conveyed is supported by audio visual textual information (Talaván Zanόn 2006) presented on screen. The relevant studies show various modes subtitling (interlingual, intralingual, reversed interlingual subtitling) offer benefits different aspects (L1 subtitles L2) having demonstrable advantages vocabulary grammar acquisition less advanced learners. A study was conducted examine state integration material Greek learners’ experience. This investigated perceptions practices teachers who teach English Foreign Language (EFL) regards using teaching method. revealed majority participating had not used this mode practice due their unfamiliarity its educational potentials. Motivated findings, paper concludes suggestions informal spaces where learners could access yield incidentally.
